The McKern Racing team along with PAC Performance will make a return to the 2009 Nationals and 2009 South Island Champs as part of the "Turbosmart Tour".
One the world’s fastest, loudest and best-looking rotary-powered drag machines is coming to town for the annual ‘V’ Energy Drink 4&Rotary Nationals in Auckland on the weekend of January 24/25, 2009. It’s been a decade since Australian sport compact drag racing legends Pac Performance last competed at the ‘Nats’ and this time around things are getting serious. "The guys are looking forward to making NZ import drag racing history as the first rotary-powered car to break the 6-second barrier on Kiwi soil", says 4&Rotary Promotions event manager, Azhar Bhamji. "The fans better be ready for this!" The Pac Performance team are scheduled to bring over their record-setting 20B turbo Mazda MX6 along with Damien McKern’s crazy Pac-engineered GRUMP2 Mazda RX-2. Both cars will remain in New Zealand after the 4&Rotary Nationals to compete in Christchurch a month later at the 2009 4&Rotary South Island Champs on February 21/22. As a two-day event the 2009 4&Rotary Nationals features a ‘Show’ day at Auckland’s ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane where 250 modified cars will be on display. The following day the ‘Drags’ kick off at Fram Autolite Dragway, Meremere with over 300 competitors taking to the strip. Over 120 trophies and thousands of dollars worth of cash and product prizes will be up for grabs over the weekend. Further spectator entertainment includes a monster truck exhibition, trade stands, DJ Quest, DB Drag Racing SPL sound-off, an R/C car display, the Interclub Challenge, FMX action, a burnout comp, and of course, the legendary 4&Rotary Bikini Jam –plus more. Thanks to ‘V’ all spectators also have the chance to drive home in a new car – more specifically a twin-turbo Toyota Aristo fully decked-out by some of the biggest names in the NZ custom and performance car industry.
