Grump2 set for a 'Stock' performance at ECN's PDF Print E-mail

Fresh from the release of new ANDRA regulations for the 06-07 season, Grump2 will make its return to the track for the East Coast Nationals trialing a run in the Super Stock catergory.

With ANDRA releasing new rule changes for the 06-07 season, turbo based and electronic injection cars will be allowed to run in Super Stock under strict regulations on a nominated class index.  Here is an extract from the ANDRA press release:

When a new class is created the ANDRA Index Review Committee establishes a minimum, or starting point for the National Record and the Class Index. Group Two already covers a wide range of cars and engines and there’s a wealth of information available to make these calculations. Many of the engines that will see duty in the new Group Two classes have already been running in ANDRA Sport Compact, existing traditional classes, or in overseas drag racing competition.

The new class minimums and the Class Indexes they generate are listed in the table.

Class                           Min.  Index
AA/DI     Competition 6.000 6.50
AA/DIA   Competition 6.150 6.65
RRR/DI   Competition 6.550 7.05
AA/API   Competition 6.450 6.95
AA/APIA Competition 6.600 7.10
BB/API   Competition 6.600 7.10
BB/APIA Competition 6.750 7.25
RR/AI     Competition 6.800 7.30
PRO/R    Competition 6.850 7.35

RR/API   Super Stock 7.500 8.00
RRR/API Super Stock 6.900 7.40
DD/API   Super Stock 7.150 7.65
DD/APIA Super Stock 7.300 7.80

It is not intended that new classes have easy indexes to encourage people into the sport. This would be unfair on existing racers who may have been chasing their own mark down for years. The half-second factor provides a little flexibility where a new minimum may be seen as too tough, and the ANDRA Class Index Policy allows the committee to monitor new minimums and make adjustments where necessary, up or down, as required.

Of course, Grump2 will trial the class in comparison with its existing ANDRA class of Super Sedan, comparing whether or not it would be beneficial or not to run Super Stock.  The crew don't expect to be competitive against the 7.40 index, but consistency is the key and that is what the crew will be looking for.  Rest assured, with the new 20B package near completion, Grump2 will leave its unique mark on the East Coast Nationals crowd!
